The Tango Digital Archive’s objective is to preserve the cultural patrimony of tango in an integrated, thematic and chronological format. Through the digitalization of the recordings in DVD-AUDIO quality, the digital scanning in high resolution of photographs, sheet music and musical arrangements into BMP files, and the filmic archives in DVD or AVI, it is possible to create in little time a security copy of the enormous existing material. Its classification by multiple criteria allows us to offer it as a material for consultation, making available a perspective until now reserved for very few specialists.  The possibility to access this material is an important tool for all those musicians, historians, and general public who want to study the genre. To ensure maximum quality in each stage of the project, we have built a multidisciplinary team including collectors, sound technicians, researchers, historians, musicians and legal advisers. 

The objective of the archive is to make this information available to all who are interested in knowing more about the tango, from schools, conservatories and universities to historians, journalists, researchers and the generally curious.

One can access the archive personally at the consultation stations in our offices, and later remotely via an on-line site. The archive will have to satisfy an enormous variety of consultations. While some neophytes will dedicate themselves to the discovery of Carlos Gardel, other experts will dedicate their study to the smallest details of the most obscure records. In either case, this will now be possible because the information will be duly preserved, ordered and available.

The derivative projects that could spring from this work are virtually infinite. The possibility to have so much information available about a subject so rich and vast as is the tango can have a great impact on the creators in different disciplines and genres.  Books, record collections, movies, documentaries, and varied productions in some way linked to tango will find here their best source of information.

While the priority is to guarantee the preservation of the oldest and rarest works, often one of a kind, one must understand that history has not stopped and fortunately year after year new material is produced.
