Tango has been an object of study and methodic compilation for only a few years now. Because of this, it has been impossible to prevent the loss of extremely valuable materials that today we would wish to be able to enjoy and study.
Fortunately, some private collectors and historians of tango have ensured the existence of numerous and varied materials in the form of original 78 rpm and LP discs, tapes, acetate, magazines, original scores, photographs, audiovisual materials and films.
Through an exhaustive and almost archeological effort to recover lost materials, our sheet music archive—unique in the world—today contains more than 700 original arrangements for tango orchestra (orquesta típica) and more than 600 for bandoneón solos. The archive is frequently consulted by scholars from around the world, and supplies the sheet music for the “Emilio Balcarce” Tango Orchestra School (Orquesta Escuela). A team works daily to expand this archive.
